For mortgage brokers: how can you add asset finance through a specialist panel partner?

A mortgage broker can add asset finance for clients without doing the application work, or learning a second lender panel, by referring the deal to a specialist panel partner. 360 Asset Finance handles the application, the lender panel, the documents and settlement, the customer deals with us, and the origination fee is shared with whoever refers: you or your licensee, under a referral agreement with us. You don't need to be accredited or change aggregator to refer.

  • Refer an asset finance client to 360 Asset Finance and we do the work, know the lender panel so you don't need to learn a second one, and share the origination fee.
  • No accreditation is needed and you don't change aggregator: the referral fee is paid to whoever refers, you or your licensee, as long as that party has a referral agreement with us.
  • Referral fees and commissions are disclosed to the customer as required.
  • You can work with us by referring under a referral agreement, or by joining the 360 team.

Why do many mortgage brokers refer asset finance rather than write it?

Many mortgage clients also need a car, a ute or business equipment. Writing consumer car and personal loans yourself means compliance obligations, including responsible lending and the best interests duty where it applies, and a lot of paperwork for each deal. For a broker whose focus is home and commercial lending, the reward often isn't worth the time.

There's also the policy work. Writing asset finance well means knowing each asset finance lender's policy on top of your home and commercial lenders, which isn't realistic for most mortgage brokers. We know the policies of our specialist panel across Australia and New Zealand, so you don't have to. We're a broker and don't lend our own money.

How do I refer a client, step by step?

  1. Set up a referral agreement. You, or your licensee, sign a referral agreement with us. No accreditation is needed, and you stay with your aggregator.
  2. Introduce the client. Tell us what the client needs, such as the asset and the timing, with the client's consent.
  3. We take it from there. We contact the client, compare options from our panel, and prepare the application and documents.
  4. We manage the deal to settlement. The client deals with us, and the lender assesses the application against its criteria.
  5. The referrer is rewarded. We share the origination fee with whoever referred the deal, you or your licensee, as long as that party has a referral agreement with us.

Referral fees and commissions are disclosed to the customer as required.

Not sure a deal fits? Before you refer, you can talk a scenario through with a BDM or our credit team, so you know early whether it's worth referring.

What are the pros and cons of referring asset finance?

Possible advantages

  • You can offer clients asset finance without doing the application work yourself.
  • You don't need accreditation, a second lender panel or a change of aggregator.
  • You or your licensee share the origination fee under a referral agreement.

Possible drawbacks

  • The client deals with us for the asset finance, so you don't run that part of the relationship.
  • You hand over the application, the lender choice and the timing.
  • A referral agreement has to be in place first, and the lender still decides whether to approve the finance.

What are the ways to work with 360 Asset Finance?
